Teaching Philosophy & Objectives
Activities over lectures.
In order to retain information, you need hands on experience. Participatory activities boost retention of material and keep students engaged throughout longer classes.
Electrics then design.
When teaching lighting, it's important that students know their tools and how to implement them before they learn about the art. This allows you to contextualize the design in terms of the practical.
Be funny.
Assume your students don't want to be at school. Use humor and pop culture to get and keep their attention. If you treat them like equals, you'll earn their respect easily.
Know your students.
Start every course by asking for names, pronouns, and trigger points. Talk to them for fun, and adapt lessons based on their interests. Offer alternate assignments when analyzing content that could be triggering.
